Lee Dorrian ama i limiti estremi. A metà degli anni 80 contribuisce a creare suoni folli e brutali, attraverso la musica incredibilmente breve e veloce dei Napalm Death. Poi crea un suono sepolcrale attraverso la musica incredibilmente lenta e allungata dei Cathedral. Una volta ancora il risultato è un’autentica rivoluzione. Forest of Equilibrium è così dilatato che trascende le sue influenze suonando allucinogeno e drogato. Al di là dell’abbondanza di oscurità e senso di oppressione, classica nel doom metal degli anni 80, non ci sono melodie epiche o riff hard rock, bensì una nebbia psichedelica che ricorda la passione per le droghe degli anni 70, senza risultare simile al suono dei Black Sabbath. I Cathedral mostrano la dimensione grottesca del doom, che sarà esplicita negli album seguenti, mentre qui risulta ancora sottile. Uno strano “cattivo viaggio” cimiteriale, come mostra l’artwork del disco.

Lee Dorrian loves extreme borders. In the middle of the 80s he contributes to create a brutal and crazy sound, through ultra-short and ultra-fast Napalm Death music. Then, he creates a sepulchral sound, through ultra-long and ultra-slow Cathedral music. Once again the result is an authentic revolution. Forest of Equilibrium is so dilated that transcends his influences sounding hallucinogenic and stoned. Beyond the abundance of darkness and sense of oppression, classical in doom metal of the 80s, there are no epic melodies or hard rock riffs, but a psychedelic fog that reminds 70s drug passion, without being similar to Black Sabbath sound. Cathedral show the grotesque dimension of doom, that will be explicit in the following albums - while here it is still subtle. A strange cemeterial bad trip, as the cover artwork shows.
