Mr. Bison - Asteroid

Mr. Bison - Asteroid
(Subsound Records, 2016)

Diretto, carico e divertente: in puro spirito livornese - o “californiano”!

Mr. Bison - Asteroid
(Subsound Records, 2016)

It cannot be a coincidence if there is a place named La California in Livorno surroundings. Indeed, people from this area own the positive amused spirit usually associated with the Americans from the West Coast. And it cannot be a coincidence if a band with such an American sound as Mr. Bison are comes exactly from this area. In the ten songs of their second album – Asteroid – the trio plays a dynamic stoner rock that seems to come out from the sunny American highways, rather than from the hairpin bends on Romito cliffs. Yet the sense of freedom and energy expressed by this album is never emulation, because the band owns personality and temperament. Dragged on by powerful, whirling and imaginative drums (played by a drummer from Pisa!) you are going to find yourself riding a motorbike at full speed, among riffs with overwhelming groove (sustained by the massive sound of two guitars also taking the place of the bass) and two hot and complementary voices. Some space rock references recall Monster Magnet, yet what is most evident is Queens of the Stone Age groove and The White Stripes melodic immediacy. Asteroid is an album with an almost funky dynamism that starts from a blues-oriented hard rock to flow into the stoner rock of the 90s. Direct, groovy, funny: in pure spirit of the Livorno (or California?) area!
